The Thanksgiving Update

It's been a while since we posted; so we ought to have a lot of big news to share... but we don't really. First of all, our computer died the other day and even Joseph, a computer science Ph.D student, couldn't make it better. He managed to get it up and running for long enough to back up all of our pictures and music and files that we wanted to keep (which I'm really glad he did), but it's gone. I should move it out of our living room now so that we have space for a Christmas tree! We've been using our laptop which isn't as easy to use as the big computer, but I'm still really grateful to have it.
Our Thanksgiving this year was really nice. Last year it was fun too, but it was just our little family so it was really different from what we're used to. This year we went to Jared and Suzie's house in San Antonio and had a delicious feast made by Suzie. Unfortunately, we didn't take a single picture even though the table was prettier and more festive than what we had set up last year. But we are very grateful to have family so nearby, even if they won't be here for very long.
We stayed overnight at Jared and Sue's and decided it was time to leave when Emily hit Derek (their three-year-old son) with a shovel. She was feeling a little out of sorts. The drive home was uneventful except we needed gas and missed the exit for $1.60 gas and took the next exit to find $1.82 gas. I was really upset and kind of wanted to turn around but we kept driving and ended up paying $1.75. I shouldn't really complain since gas was $4 just six months ago. That's another thing we're grateful for this year - super cheap gas.
Lately Emily has been really into movies. Since our computer died she's been watching them in our bedroom where the TV is - not because we watch a lot of TV in there, just because there's no space in the living room for it. The other day she had me kind of worried because High School Musical had ended and gone back to the menu where it plays the same ten seconds of music over and over again to drive the viewer crazy but she was sitting there still transfixed, staring at the screen.
I turned the TV off and practically dragged her into the living room where she had a chips and salsa party with Joseph.
They've been bonding a lot lately, which I think is super cute. This is a picture of them this morning creating elaborate Lego worlds together.
What a good team!

And since I wrote so much at the beginning, here are a few random pictures that I took recently and think are really cute/funny.
She pulled these oven mitts off the counter and donned them herself!

She really likes shoes. Even ones that I have trouble walking in.
Camera Smile! Recovering cheek scrape.Speaking of injuries, the other day Emily dug a hole that happened to be on a fire ant nest. She kept making uncomfortable sounds and looking slightly unhappy, but continued digging so I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I finally saw the ants and made her stop digging (which she was really mad about) but when I took her home and gave her a bath I counted at least 20 bites. She has just grown up covered in bites! Hopefully that's given her some sort of an immunity, or at least a higher tolerance.

Joseph accused me of sounding like the seriouslysoblessed.blogspot.com girl in this post. I tried to fix it, but you may find residual bubble-headedness in the text. Sorry about that.

Thanks for comming to our Thanksgiving dinner. I really like having people over and I'm glad that you are willing to make the long drive - even at $1.75/gallon it's still takes forever. Speaking of, did you try my new route? Was it faster? Anyway thanks again! We love you guys!

I think it definitely saved us time. It might not always make a difference since we often leave late on a Sunday night and traffic isn't really an issue, but on Friday the line to turn left from Potranco stretched for about a mile. I was glad to be turning right. We were essentially traffic free all the way home.

it's not too bubble-headed. i like the update, and the oven mitts picture. jeff did the same thing last week, but it wasn't as cute.
we also like your rug a lot. where did you get it?

We got the rug at Target and we like it a lot except it shows every speck of anything on it. And we get lots of specks of everything on it thanks to our very busy baby. I have to vacuum it everyday to keep it from looking gross.
