Aftermath

Wednesday night, Amanda was working at the hospital. She messaged me to ask about the weather. It was as calm as could be, although very muggy. She then said that the hospital had been put on a tornado watch. Glancing at some doppler weather reports, it looked like there was some potentially heavy weather farther north, but nothing significant down where we live. I kept grading exams until I was too tired. Amanda had messaged me again to say that the weather watch was no longer in effect. I shut the house down for the night and headed to bed just a bit before midnight.

Just after midnight, there began to be a lot of lighting. Then I heard rain and the wind kicked up like crazy. I would have gone back to my computer to check the doppler weather report, but the power was out. The rain became quite loud and solid. Although we live on the second story, our floor began to flood as the horizontal rain found its way under the cracks of the door. It was exciting. After the excitement died down, I took a flashlight and looked around. It was a mess.Amanda's little plants took a beating. All of the buildings were decorated with shredded leaves.
Branches and trees are still lying everywhere.
We're lucky that our power was quickly restored. Some people didn't have electricity for a few days. Those who were having babies through the night were fortunate in that the hospital never went on full tornado alert. When that happens, apparently all of the patient must be moved out of their rooms (away from windows) into the hallways. That would make the whole ordeal a little more annoying.
