‘Twas the night before Christmas and we were excited.
With brand-new pajamas, the kids were delighted.
The stockings were hung by the chimney right there.
It was just made of paper, but we didn’t care.
To have fun outside, we kept kids from their beds,
We tried to take pictures, but cut off their heads.
But our pictures were blurry ‘cause it was too dark.
Lack of sleep and some sugar made all those kids chatter,
Still we took a few moments to teach some things that matter
And so we remembered that baby so dear
Whose birthday we celebrate this time of year
And a shepherd and angel, but no one named ‘Nick’.
Away in the stable the virgin was huddled,
She swaddled the baby in pink and then cuddled.
The shepherds came quickly to see the new king,
And later came wise men, the star following.
We talked and we sang, what a sight to behold.
We wished there were snow, but it’s just not that cold.
Far later than normal, we finally retired,
But morning came quickly with much work required.
Up, dashing and shaving and packing and fixing,
On dressing and changing and baby drink mixing.
Away to the Church for our meetings we hurried,
Then up to the organ I sheepishly scurried.
A little bit late for the prelude to play,
I set up the stops and played anyway.
The meeting was great for me up on the stand
While down in the pews, with three kids on her hand,
Amanda’s experience was not quite like mine.
Yet she kept the kids reverent, most of the time.
With presents to open, which one could be first?
‘No time for more pictures,’ she said with a pout.
Then she gathered up presents and passed them all out.
Mother and father then said with a sigh,
‘Yes, open the presents but don’t forget why.’
Our holiday time has been filled with such cheer.
Merry Christmas to all, and a Happy New Year!
